"This introduction identifies a body of cinematic texts that, spanning a range of generic, national and industrial contexts, proposes new models of the relationship between human and non-human worlds. It situates this body of film texts against the backdrop of technological, ecological and social changes that have recently brought established assumptions about the human into question.
